Vacancy Description

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) is a large provider of community and specialist healthcare.  We strive every day to realise the BCHC vision of delivering the best care in order to develop and sustain the healthiest communities; collectively driven by our shared values of being caring, open, responsible, respectful, and inclusive in everything we do.

Our five clinical divisions operate from over 300 sites across Birmingham and the West Midlands, providing care for people throughout their lives from newborn babies to the frail elderly.  Our services are diverse: from healthy lifestyle services that support people to feel well, to the most complex healthcare for those with highly specialist needs.  We provide care in people’s homes and also in clinics and inpatient units across the city.  We deliver all of this with a commitment to integrated, personalised care to meet the needs of our diverse local communities.

BCHC is a partner within both the Birmingham and Solihull (BSol) Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) and the Black Country and West Birmingham STP (BCWB). The NHS Long Term Plan confirmed that all parts of England would be served by an integrated care system or ICS from April 2021. Both BSol and BCWB STP have been approved to become an ICS by NHS England and Improvement and so were formally established on 1 April 2021.

Person Specification

We are seeking a high calibre candidate who possesses exceptional leadership skills and demonstrates real motivation for making a difference.  We are seeking someone with strong business acumen and significant experience of working in a large, complex environment.  You will have board level experience in either an executive or non-executive directorship and have strong stakeholder engagement skills together with the ability to build strong internal relationships and build upon existing partnership arrangements across the local health economy.

In addition to the duties of a Non-Executive Director, it is the expectation that the post holder will would assume the role of Chair of the Audit Committee.

The purpose of the Committee is to focus upon monitoring and proactively reviewing the effectiveness of over-arching systems of financial and corporate governance, internal control, assurance processes and risk management across the whole of the Trust’s activities (clinical and non-clinical) both generally and in support of the annual governance statement; and to provide assurance to the Board thereon.

BCHC is actively striving to become a ‘Truly Inclusive Organisation’ and a ‘Great Place to Work’ and, as an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons.  One of our strategic aims is to ensure that our Board is representative of the ethnic composition of our workforce and local community and we would particularly welcome applications that help us achieve it. All appointments will be made on merit and in accordance with our Trust’s Recruitment and Selection Policy
