Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is one of the largest and highest profile NHS teaching hospitals in the country and an integral partner in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS). The increased focus on system-wide collaboration offers exciting possibilities to change the way that we deliver care for our patients, and the Board has a vital role to play in ensuring that these benefits are realised. We have a strong basis on which to build; with some of the lowest mortality rates in the NHS and excellent clinical outcomes, our hospitals are rated as ‘Good’ overall for the quality of care we provide, and as ‘Outstanding’ for being both caring and well led.
As we continue on our journey towards becoming an Outstanding organisation, we will be focusing on improving the responsiveness of our services, reducing waiting times and looking for innovative ways to deliver much-needed improvements in some of our buildings and facilities. Our staff survey also emphasises that, despite improvements, we have not made the progress that we want to see in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion for both staff and patients.
To help us with these objectives, the Council of Governors is looking to appoint two new Non-Executive Directors with distinct professional backgrounds: the first will bring significant experience in the field of Human Resources/workforce and the second deep clinical experience, including experience gained in primary and/or community care and/or public health settings and with a strong focus on patient experience. While previous Non-Executive Director experience would be helpful, it is not essential but applicants will need to demonstrate a strong track record of operating at Board level as an executive. Beyond this, the Board is committed to increasing its diversity and would particularly welcome applications from individuals from groups currently under-represented at Board level.
