Vacancy Description

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Chairman who has the compassion and commitment to help lead and deliver excellent patient care, and the highest levels of safety and quality.

Remuneration: £50,000 per annum (pending pay review from 1st April 2019)

Time Commitment: Average of 12 days per month (can be more at times) with commitment and flexibility to fit in with the business cycle.

Term: Initial 3 year tenure

Start Date:  To commence 1 October 2019

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute hospital, older persons’ mental health services and community services for approximately 200,000 people living in and around Gateshead in the North East of England. In addition the Trust provides Gynae-oncology and Screening Services across the North of England, and has an expanding base of Pathology services. Our annual turnover is over £250 million and our workforce of around 4,500 staff deliver care in community settings as well as from our state-of-the-art care facilities. We are proud to be rated as ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ care by the healthcare regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Do you have the skills and experience to lead our Board of Directors; to influence, shape and govern our Foundation Trust as we move into challenging and changing times for the NHS in the North East, combined with a desire and commitment to support the local community and patients? Specifically we are looking for someone who has substantial board-level experience and personal credibility as you will be expected to bring independent judgement to the Board.  You will have presence and the requisite interpersonal skills to develop partnerships across large and complex organisations, building and enhancing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including politicians and the wider public sector. You will need to demonstrate a strong commitment to the NHS and a genuine interest in healthcare.
