Vacancy Description

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a new non-executive director to help shape and influence its future strategic direction whilst supporting and challenging executive directors during on-going pandemic recovery and reduction of waiting lists.

The board has recently expanded to include further expertise in primary care and national policy. In this vacancy, we are seeking a senior clinician with deep experience of transforming patient care together with a track-record of improving and sustaining better quality and safety outcomes for patients. We would welcome applicants of all clinical backgrounds with the Board under-represented currently in senior nursing and midwifery expertise.

This role will add to enhancing our succession planning and bring additional depth to our decision-making.  The successful candidate will join a highly capable board that prides itself on keeping patients at the heart of its decisions.

The Trust is one of the largest in the country with an enhanced role in research and development and recent TV star through the BBC Hospital documentary series. It is also working in ever increasing collaboration with North Middlesex Hospital, its nearby neighbour and with whom it now shares a joint chair.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a track record of leadership, strategic focus and personal achievement in a complex environment. As a non-executive director, they will need the ability to influence the strategic direction of the organisation and have a passion for developing the quality of service provided by the Trust. They will also need to act as an ambassador and advocate for the Trust.

We are seeking a candidate who will help us to better reflect the diverse experiences of our staff, patients and stakeholders.  We particularly would welcome applications from members of our minority ethnic communities who are currently under-represented on our Board of Directors.

Additional Information

To apply, please submit a CV and a structured letter of application of no more than two sides that identifies how you meet the requirements of the person specification outlined in the candidate brief.

The deadline for applications is NOON on Friday 25 February 2022. The interviews and assessment date is TBC.

Canvassing of Directors of the Trust or of any committee of the Trust Board directly or indirectly for any appointment under the Trust shall disqualify the candidate for such appointment.
