Vacancy Description
The Christie is a very special, important, organisation, caring for and treating people with cancer to the highest possible standard, and coupling that with both world-class cancer research, and educating and inspiring the next generation of cancer clinicians.
A performance-driven, high-achieving organisation, The Christie was the first to be rated Outstanding twice by the Care Quality Commission, and now treats more than 60,000 patients a year through a network of sites across Manchester and the North West. Working with the University of Manchester and Cancer Research UK in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, and with NHS and public service partners across and beyond Manchester and Cheshire, The Christie, which is running 650+ clinical trials at any one time, leads across a network of organisations committed to improving cancer care and outcomes across the region, nationally and internationally. The Christie’s 3,000 colleagues put their patients at the heart of everything they do.
The Chair leads the Board responsible for this extraordinary organisation’s future, ensuring The Christie is able to deliver the highest quality care and treatment, leading and developing the non-executive Directors, and working closely with the Chief Executive, Roger Spencer. As the current Chair’s term comes to an end, after nine successful years, the organisation is now looking for the right forward-thinking, motivated leader to be the right successor to her.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Board leader to make a unique contribution to cancer care, research and education at the very highest level. Building on The Christie’s strong foundations, the incoming Chair will lead the Board as the Trust commits to a new five year strategy and forges deeper relationships with its partners, within the NHS and beyond. The appointed Chair will be driven by The Christie’s mission and embody the Trust’s three values: Make a Difference, Act with Kindness, and Connect with People. They will bring a track record of leadership of a significant, complex organisation, and the ability to lead and work in partnership, collaboratively. Optimistic about the impact The Christie can and will have, they will lead the board to develop a forward-looking vision, ensuring the Board operates effectively and to the highest standards of governance.
