Vacancy Description

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is a large teaching hospital providing acute services to around 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire. The Trust also provides specialist services, including neurosciences, cardiac and specialist children’s services, to more than 3.7 million people in central southern England and the Channel Islands.

Our mission is to provide excellent clinical care, educate current and future healthcare professionals, and undertake research to improve healthcare for the future. Our regulator, the Care Quality Commission rates us “Good” with many “Outstanding” areas, so while we are focused on continuous improvement, we are also proud of the progress we have made to date.

Demand for the Trust’s services is at an all-time high and is likely to grow beyond Covid, so UHS must continue to focus on innovation and excellence in all that it does and we are looking for an Associate NED to join us and work with the wider team; contributing in particular to ongoing work and discussions to actively improve inclusion across the Trust, building upon co-created plans of action around diversity and disability and ensuring these targets are embedded throughout the Trust’s work.

 

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a professional background in clinical, care or technology to help deepen system-wide working, growing integration and collaborative working with our partners across the health and care system.

The Associate role is an opportunity to gain first-hand experience as a Non-Executive Director, so while we are open to applications from more experienced candidates, we are also very keen to hear from high potential individuals, who have not yet operated at Board level, but who have the talent and ability to develop the skills needed to succeed in a Non-Executive level role and who can bring a new viewpoint to our discussions. We are particularly interested in hearing from those who can bring experience and perspective from under-represented groups in our community.
