Vacancy Description
Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Non-executive Director with either senior customer/patient experience, audit/finance/risk management or clinical expertise
We are excited about the opportunities the merger of Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHT) and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust (BSUH) present not least in enabling clinical services to be arranged in a very different way across Sussex. Together our aim is to be the best place to receive healthcare and the best place to work. We share a commitment to the people and communities of Sussex; and to working together to serve them.
As part of the development of our Board, we are now seeking experienced and talented individuals who bring strategic level expertise as well as a pursuit of perfection through natural curiosity, a focus on process and quality assurance at source. Sound judgement and a clear understanding of governance together with the ability to engage, listen and build relationships with other key stakeholders both internally and externally will be key. Strategic level experience in customer/patient experience, audit/risk/ finance or clinical expertise would also be helpful. Above all else we are seeking a genuine commitment to supporting the realisation of our future and the future of the people we serve.
WSHT and BSUH have been working in partnership with a shared leadership team for nearly four years and will be merging in April 2021. Our vision (“We Care”) is at the heart of all that that we do – we pride ourselves in putting the compassionate care of patients first and foremost. WSHT became the first non-specialist acute hospital trust to be awarded Outstanding in all the CQC’s key inspection areas and BSUH became the fastest improving acute hospital trust in England and is now rated Good overall and Outstanding for caring by the CQC. Moving forwards together, the ambition is to continue improving and providing excellent care, every time, for patients.
The merger is a technical but important process for both WSHT and BSUH to get the right leadership, structures, and governance in place. Our journey has started, but we have much still to learn as we work towards full merger, enabled by our Patient First ethos which shapes our values and gives structure to our improvement and performance management. Our shared sense of purpose, commitment to investing in and developing our workforce; and focus on the continuous improvement pursuit of excellent care, every time, for our patients underpins all that we do.
